Stationery Recommendations
You can really doodle with any pen you have, but isn’t it more fun to do it with some special pens and good pencils?
In case you’re ready to get some stationery treats for yourself, here are my favorite recommendations:
- Pencil & eraser. For the pencil, I really recommend getting the one with a comfortable grip since you’ll probably spend a lot of time using it. My top choice is the Pilot Dr. Grip pencil. And for an eraser, get something that won’t leave any traces behind, like this Sakura Foam Eraser.
- Fineliners. These are wonderful for doodling and note taking. The black lines are perfect to outline your doodles, and the pen thickness variety will definitely allow you to make your doodles stand out even more. My choice for these are Sakura Pigma Micron.
- Markers. If color is your thing, you’ll want some markers, and I recommend Crayola Super Tips, since they come in so many colors and are pretty affordable. But I also really love Tombow Twin Tone and Zebra Mildliners for the special colors they offer.
- Colorful Pens. Another option if you want your doodles to be colorful. Tons of different pens you can use, but I would recommend Staedtler Triplus Fineliners or Sakura Gelly Roll, the latter being also amazing for working on black paper.
Now you have all the supplies and are ready to start doodling. So here are some creative inspirations for you.
Bullet Journal Halloween Doodles
Each artist has their own style, so it can be fun to see how everyone adds their own spin on basic doodles like skulls and pumpkins.
That's why in this lineup, I've gathered doodles from different creators, so you can see how you can customize one idea in various ways.
Let's dive in and get your creative juices flowing.
I am starting this lineup with my own little tutorial of basic Halloween-themed doodles. You can always guess it's my tutorials because 9 times out of 10, you'll see me using Zebra Mildliners haha
Here are some more spookiness inspirations. As you can see, you can use more black in your doodles and automatically become more menacing and evil.
I love how cute these are; the cartoony style like this is probably my favorite. Plus, what a fun idea to add thoughts and quote bubbles to them, especially since they are all puns.
Trick or treating is an important part of the Halloween celebration, and of course, if you want to add some fun candy to your October pages, it will look absolutely natural.
Here is a simple tutorial from wonderful Nicole that can give you some ideas.
There are millions of different ways to draw pumpkins, but they all are different and will give different results.
Considering that for the October Bullet Journal setup, you'll probably need to draw quite a few pumpkins - I saw it's always great to see a different tutorial.
Just because October is all about scary and menacing things, it doesn't mean you can't infuse it with your own style. These doodles are a great example of how you can turn your Halloween doodles into something more cute and friendly.
Even though I definitely love my brightly colored Halloween doodles, it looks especially spooky and stylish if you just use a black pen.
I could never decide on just one style, so I often do my doodles in just black and use bright orange for other elements, like headers.
These are your standard Halloween doodles, but what I really like is that the creator played around with colors and didn't use any black, not even for an outline.
Slav is a wonderful artist, and I love how she makes all her doodles look super cute, even if it's some fun spookiness of Halloween doodles.
There are plenty of incredible Halloween movies, but probably the most symbolic one for me is Hocus Pocus. So, when I saw this set of Halloween doodles, I knew I had to include them here, I hope you agree with my sentiment.
I love how creative this tutorial is. It just proves that if you put your mind to it - you can make everything a Halloween doodle, even adorable plushies.
I also want to especially note how amazing the font for the header is.
These doodles look stunning and so artistic! I admire all the details the creator put into each doodle; even something simple like a pumpkin has so much variety
She really managed to make these doodles both cute and spooky. What a talent. Also really in love with the shades and generally the way she played with the color.
Pumpkins are definitely something you can add a lot to your Halloween pages, and you can play around so much with the designs! Here are just a few options I came up with.
Loving this new take with the use of traditional for the season black and orange. Also, it's a bit off-topic, but is anyone else obsessed with the handwriting on the left side of the page?
I'm not the only one associating Halloween with magic, but unlike herbal magic from previous doodles, this one has a more spooky and sinister feel to it.
I love the idea of doodling little monsters for Halloween, it really has no limitations, you can imagine any monster combinations. As you can see, I also added soft shades to each doodle to make them stand out more.
Absolute classic of October, and I like that among very Halloween-themed doodles, you can also see so many Fall leaves.
Last but not least, there are these beautiful Halloween doodles. I love how the creator showed both how to doodle and how you can customize them with colors.
