Stationery Recommendations

Of course, to create a first page, you’ll need some supplies. And that part can also be very confusing since there is such a wide variety of stationery items out there.

So here are a few I can recommend:

  • Sakura Pigma Micron – these fineliners are some of the best and can be essential in creating every Bullet Journal page. Plus, they come in a set of different nib sizes, so you can get a variety of line thicknesses.
  • Tombow Fude Brush Pen – these tiny brush pens are amazing for brush lettering, even if you’re a complete beginner. They are also great for drawing and are a handy tool for any Bullet Journaler.
  • Crayola Super Tips – if you want to add color to your Bullet Journal pages, these pens are amazing. They have a lot of colors and are pretty affordable. If you want to invest a bit more into your colored markers, try out Tombow Dual Brush Pens who also come in many colors and have a brush and a marker tip.
  • Washi Tape – these little pieces of colorful paper are perfect for decorating your Bullet Journal, and there are so many different designs to choose from.

Ok, with all the supplies at the ready, let’s dive in and review the ideas for your dot-grid journal first page.

Dot Journal Ideas For Your First Page

First and foremost, let me tell you something important – the first page of your journal isn’t really that important.

I know it feels important, it feels like you have to make it special, and it will determine your entire journal. But in fact, it won’t and it isn’t. In fact, chances are you won’t even look at your first page as time goes by.

So don’t overthink it much, pick an idea you like, do your best, and do your best. The important thing is for you to get started and overcome the overwhelm of starting a new journal.

So, here are a few ideas to get you started right away.

Quote Page

A good quote can help you stay motivated; it can set the whole mood for the entire journal.

Plus, it’s a great page to let your creativity flow—no need to think about functionality; just play around with colors and patterns.

Word Of The Year

Another interesting practice is to use a word of the year for your first page.

The idea is pretty simple – you pick one word that you want to define your future year. I also love writing my own on the page, the meaning that I added to the word.

Having a word of the year is like creating a guiding arrow for your intentions during the upcoming year.

Pattern Page

If you want to do something special and creative, you can always create something like a page full of patterns.

Creating patterns is very calming, and it’s almost like a meditation. Plus, it allows you to express your creativity in your own way.

You can use doodles, colors, stamps, or washi tape and create any pattern you want.

Year At A Glance

It’s always good to have a bird’s-eye view of the upcoming year. I find that it always helps to get an idea of the year to come.

Plus, a future log is a good page to have for your future planning anyway, so you might as well use it as your first page.

Vision Board

This is a fantastic idea, because if you can imagine your future, you can definitely work towards achieving it.

And isn’t it the best way to start your new journal?

Bullet Journal Key

A key is a very important part if you’re starting a dot journal; this is your guide to describing all your entries.

And it’s a pretty easy and straightforward page to create, so you might as well use it to break your first page fear and get started on your journaling adventures.

About Me Page

This is actually my favorite way to start a new journal. It’s like a little print on what kind of person I am when I start a journal.

I think this is a great way to remember your journey, and I must say I love looking back at my old about me pages in each of my journals, it tells me right away what person I was and what was happening in my life.

These are just a few ideas, but in truth, it’s really up to you; there are no rules, and you can do anything you want. Always remember it’s your journal and you decide.

If you want to, you can skip the first page altogether and start on your planning pages instead. Maybe you can come back and decorate the page if you want to in the future. Maybe not – it’s up to you, no pressure.
