Monthly Memory Keeping Journal Ideas

Sharing is caring!

I always find that journaling my memories at the end of the month brings me so much joy. Life moves fast, and before we know it, another beautiful month has slipped right past us!

That is exactly why I started setting up dedicated pages to capture those little, everyday magic moments.

If you have been looking for fresh ways to record your own adventures, you are in the right place. Today, I am sharing some of my absolute favorite memory journal ideas straight from my own journals.

I will share different formats and ideas for what you can include in your own monthly memory pages, as well as some other benefits I have realized from creating memory pages over the years.

Grab your favorite pens, pour a cozy cup of tea, and let us get inspired to preserve your memories in a creative way.

You know that feeling when you sit down at the end of the month, flip back through your journal, and suddenly remember that really good dinner you had with friends, or that random Tuesday when everything just felt right?

That’s exactly what monthly memory keeping pages do for me โ€” and honestly, I didn’t expect them to become one of my favorite things when I first started back in 2020.

Here’s what I’ve actually noticed from doing this consistently: my memory is way more unreliable than I ever gave it credit for. Without my pages, so many sweet little moments would just disappear โ€” not because they weren’t meaningful, but because life keeps moving and our brains are ruthless editors.

But beyond just saving memories, I’ve noticed a few other things that surprised me:

  • It genuinely makes me happier. Sitting down to document the month forces me to actively look for the good stuff. And when you’re hunting for beautiful moments to add to your page, you start noticing them while they’re happening too. It’s like training your brain to look for joy.
  • It shifted how I see my own life. I used to feel like nothing special was happening โ€” just the usual day-to-day. But when I started writing it all down, I realized my life is actually so much richer than I was giving it credit for. It’s a weird kind of gratitude practice that doesn’t feel like homework.
  • It’s a creative playground with zero pressure. Unlike my planning spreads (where things need to work), my memory pages are just for me. I get to experiment, play with supplies, and make something pretty just because it feels good.

And now, I want to share the pages I’ve been creating โ€” month by month โ€” so you can see exactly how I do it and hopefully get inspired to start your own!

But first, let me quickly share some of my favorite supplies.

Stationery Recommendations

As I mentioned, memory keeping pages for me are all about trying out ALL my supplies and new techniques and styles. So here are some of my favorite go-to things for memory journaling.

  • Fineliners – these are the basis of every page I create, and Sakura Pigma Micron are some of my favorites.
  • Markers – I love using color in my pages, so of course, there are plenty of markers I use. My go-to products are Zebra Mildliners and Zebra Click Art. I just can’t get enough of them.
  • Printer – I love adding photos to my journal, and that’s why I love my HP Sprocket. It allows you to quickly print photos, and the paper already comes with a sticker side, so it’s perfect for adding to your journal.

And then of course, there are plenty more stickers and washi tapes I’m using, but if I were to list them all, this post would never end.

Ok, get your supplies at the ready, and let’s dive in and look at some memory-keeping pages to help inspire you to create one that works for you.

And if you want more inspiration, be sure to check the end of the post for even more of my different memory-keeping layouts.

Monthly Memory Journal Page Ideas

There are many ways to keep your memories together, and I must say, I prefer to do it weekly. Probably because my memory and my brain have a huge hole where everything leaks out.

But, a monthly memory page is a very good start – it’s not that often it’s low pressure, and it will be fun to also kind of summarise the entire month and get ready for the new one.

Here are the layouts I’ve created over the years. Each has a different style and format, so I’ll share ideas for what you can add to your monthly memory pages.

March 2020 Memory Page

This was the first memory-keeping layout I’ve created, and there is really no structure or idea to it; I just slapped on stickers and washi tape I had with me.

To be fair, at that point, I just came off a PlannerCon, and I had so many fun supplies to play around with!

The layout is kind of chaotic, but it does capture all the main events that happened during the month. And for the header design, I decided to follow the monthly theme I had in my Bullet Journal at the time.

I think this layout perfectly encapsulated the excitement of that month for me, along with the craziness and chaos that began to unfold in the world.

April Memory Page

April followed a similar idea to March, where I basically just got creative and played around with doodling and using stickers and washi tape.

To be fair, there wasn’t really a lot happening in April 2020 (if you know you know), so memory pages for me were mostly a fun way to do something creative and different from my usual journaling layouts.

October Monthly Memories

This is yet another layout from 2020, but this time it’s a bit further in the year, so I actually found myself figuring out more of the type of memory pages I wanted to create.

As you can see, memory-keeping pages were still, for me, the place to try to put all my stamps, stickers, and washi tape. And honestly, the creative aspect of that was really very fun!

But in all the chaos, there is also a bit of a structure here – apart from general things that happened, I also created an area for some stationery swatches for supplies I was enjoying that month, as well as some struggles.

I think it’s important to include what kinds of struggles and issues you’ve had on your memory pages; it helps create a clearer, more detailed image of the entire month.

Memory Page In Square Journal

For quite some time, I was using a square journal, and I found that it’s so much fun to have all the extra space for creating your layouts! This is my memory page for April.

As you can see, here I went for a more structured approach, dividing the month by categories.

Thinsg included are: good thinsg that happened, negative things that happened, media i consumed and just a few general thoguhts I’ve been having during the month.

I like this structured approach because it helps me to see clearly not just what happened but also what I was thinking and what I was struggling with.

January 2025 Memory Page

This is a big jump in time, but I actually took a break from journaling altogether with so many things happening in my life. I kept doing my memory-keeping pages, but they were more weekly than monthly.

So this January memory page was my great comeback!

As you can see, this layout is very structured. I wanted to keep certain sections so that my memory page would encapsulate all areas of my life.

So here are the sections that I used, and you might consider as well:

  • Highlights of the month
  • Work goals that you achieved (or any other type of goals)
  • Things you did for yourself ( basically checking that you did practice some self-care)
  • Future projects I’m excited about (as you can see on the page, I was very excited about building my dream office)

February Monthly Memories

The next month, I followed the same format, keeping it all pretty organized, even if some sections were a bit different.

I added more pictures here as well, which is probably my favorite part of memory keeping.

I don’t think I take enough pictures, and even when I do, they just quietly die in my camera roll. So, actually adding photos to your memory pages is a great motivation to take more pictures and to print them out.

I’ll be honest – the photos I see in my journals are the ones I really remember, I barely ever open my camera roll, and things that are not printed are just getting lost for me.

Uh, and a fun thing I added this month was writing at the top what the final feel and purpose of the month is. I think it was a great idea, and I’ll be coming back to it. It really helps set the mood for the month and gives you a sense of the context in which you’ll look back on your memories.

January 2026 Memory Page

This is the monthly memory page and a new format that I’m trying out in 2026. I wanted it to work as a memory page and as a little bit of a monthly review.

To keep it as a little review of my month, here are the categories I included:

  • What went well
  • What things need improvement
  • What I am most proud of
  • What are the challenges I faced

This helps me have a bit of structure and see, month to month, how I’m doing with my personal growth and goals. And again, I think it helps me to get a better idea of the mindset that I was in that month.

The rest of the space is for memories, highlights, and media I consumed. I have been watching a lot of anime in 2026, so I decided this will be a part of my memory-keeping pages as well.

Monthly Memories For February

As you can see, I kept a similar format for all my memory pages in 20265. It helps me to see how I’m doing and which things I’m slacking off on.

For example, this is the second month I’ve said I wish I were reading more. It tells me I should either actually start reading more or admit that it is not very important on my priority list.

This is also the second month I’ve noticed a new section on my memory pages: fashion moments.

I started sharing some of my looks with a friend, and I have been really loving this new style I’m experimenting with. Plus, it’s a good excuse to actually add photos to my pages when I don’t really have any pictures from the events and meetings.

March Memory Page

Finally, here is my March memory page. It turned out to be so full of photos, and I love it!

I can clearly see that I had a lot of fashion moments, and every time I dress up for something, it’s for a meet-up or event, which makes me feel like it was a very active month.

Because I added so many photos here, I didn’t really have a lot of space to write more about the things that happened. But I think it is a good thing, really.

I like it when things are visual, and you can easily understand what’s up from just one look. And to me, with the way I used color and pictures here, March looks amazing.

And there you go, here are just a few monthly memory pages I’ve created, and I hope it gave you some inspiration on how to add memory keeping to your journal.
