9 Best Markers For Hand Lettering
When it comes to Bullet Journal lettering, the right tools make all the difference. Whether you’re crafting elegant headers or playful doodles, having the best markers for hand lettering in your arsenal can turn an ordinary page into something extraordinary.
Trust me, I’ve gone down the rabbit hole of marker tests—smudges, dull colors, and nibs that fray faster than you can say “brush pen.”
But don’t worry, you won’t have to experiment like I did. Below, I’ll share my top picks that glide smoothly, deliver vibrant pigment, and keep your lettering as effortless as it is eye-catching. Let’s get started!
When it comes to hand lettering, there are so many supplies out there that it can quickly become overwhelming. With endless options for brush pens, fine liners, and markers, how do you know which one is right for you?
If you’ve ever found yourself stuck in the stationery aisle, unsure of what to pick, don’t worry—I’ve got you covered! I’ve gathered my top recommendations for the best markers for hand lettering, so you can find the perfect tools to make your lettering journey more fun and enjoyable.
But here’s something important to remember—hand lettering is all about practice. The right markers can definitely make your work smoother, more vibrant, and easier to control, but they aren’t a magic wand that will instantly transform your skills.
Progress comes with time, patience, and lots of doodling in your Bullet Journal. That said, having high-quality supplies can make the learning process much more exciting and help you achieve the effects you’re aiming for with less frustration.
And before we dive into the list, I wanted to mention that there are some FREE printables for you to practice and improve your lettering skills, and you can already find them at the end of the post. So be sure you scroll down and get those before you leave.

Best Markers For Hand Lettering
There are many different supplies you can use in your hand lettering, but here we'll just talk about markers. You can check more posts at the end of this one for links with other different stationery to help you along with your hand lettering journey.
All these markers are fantastic, and you'll love using them. In the end, what you choose will really depend on what color you like and what your budget is.
Let's start the list with my favorite markers - Crayola Super Tips. They are very affordable and come in packs with many, many colors. Their most extensive set has 100 colors, which is more colors than you would ever need! They are perfect for hand lettering and your Bullet Journal pages.
Because they have a bit of a pointy tip, you can also use them for brush lettering.
These felt tip markers are a new addition to my stationery collection, and i really love them. They come in beautiful; and vibrant colors. They also lay on the paper nicely so you barely ever have ghosting and no bleeding.
But even more than that their felt tip allows you to be very precise with your strokes if you need to, so they are perfect for adding smaller details to your hand lettering projects,
Tombow are some of the best brush pens out there, and they also are available in many different colors. More than that, they have a brush and an arker tip, so you get to use them for a lot of different projects and situations.
I must admit paying pens are not my cup of tea, but they are fantastic, and you can create pretty unique-looking pieces if you use them. So, if this is what you're looking for, I definitely recommend you try these Posca markers, which have been the leading paint pens on the market for a long time for a good reason.
They have a smooth ink flow, provide beautiful thick lines, and are all in bright and varied colors, not just the pastel I chose to feature here.
These are probably my second most used markers. They have beautiful colors and are very easy to use, with the color looking just as bright on the page. Moreover, they have a marker and a pen tip, so you get the same color in different line thicknesses.
Karin markers are an absolute dream. They have very unique colors and always look vivid and enticing on paper. They are also water-based, so you can just use them as watercolors.
But a bit of a warning here - because they are water-based, not all the paper can handle it, and there might be bleeding or ghosting. I'd recommend using 160 GSM paper.
These markers have a highlighter tip and a market tip[, so you have plenty of ways to use them. For me, these are the markers I use the most for my hand lettering projects or for just creating my Bullet Journal pages.
They are pretty famous for the soft colors they have in the collection, and actually, they also have a set of brush pen tips as well, instead of a highlighter tip if you find one that fits your style better.
Faber Castell is a fantastic brand, so whatever pens you get from them, you can always count on the smooth-flowing ink and beautiful colors that stay vivid on your paper for years.
These dual-tip markers have very different line thicknesses, and they will be perfect for creating varied points and styles in your hand lettering projects.
Last but not least are these markers from Staedtler. They really have a rainbow of colors to choose from, and again, they come with double tips, which almost makes it like having two pens in one.
From this collection, I tried their fineliners, not markers, and they were absolutely top quality and a joy to use. From what I heard, the same can be applied to these markers.
