Sharing is caring!

If you’re anything like me, your Bullet Journal is more than just a planner—it’s a canvas for creativity. One of the most delightful tools to elevate your journaling game is washi tape.

This versatile and colorful tape can transform ordinary layouts into vibrant reflections of your creativity while also keeping things organized. And they are not just pretty faces; there are so many practical ways you can use them to help with your journaling as well!

In this post, we’ll dive into some brilliantly creative washi tape Bullet Journal ideas that will not only make your pages pop but also bring a touch of joy to your everyday planning. Let’s explore how to take your Bullet Journal from functional to fabulous with these simple yet stunning washi tape ideas.

There are limitless ways to customize your Bullet Journal. Among them, washi tape is one of the easiest ways to achieve the perfect look of your page.

One of the things I love about washi tapes is how versatile they can be. From practical applications to simple decorative joy, you can do it all with just one roll of Wahsi tapes.

Moreover, washi tapes are not as permanent as stickers, so you can pretty easily unstick them and change the placement. In a world where I get anxious to use stickers because I’m afraid to stick them in the wrong place, washi tape is the unsung hero.

And, of course, the best part about washi tapes is their variety. No matter what style and aesthetic you have, there is a washi tape you’ll love. They also come in different sizes!

I hope you’re now extra excited about getting some washi tapes and learning how to use it to level up your journal.

Creative Bullet Journal WASHI TAPE Ideas

I love the limitless possobiulities of a Bulelt Journal, where you can create anything you want howecver you want. And you can use any supplies in any way you want!

But, of course, having so many opportunities can vbe overwhelming and sometimes we just need some inspiration to get started on finding a fun wau to put washi tape into a good use.

To help you with that, here are 13 ways you can use washi tape in your Bullet Journal.

Fix Mistakes

One of my favorite ways to use washi tape is to fix mistakes! Cover it up with washi tape, and nobody will know what’s hiding behind it.

And if you use monochrome, a darker type of washi tape, you can ever write on top of it and make it look stylish, like it was the original idea rather than a quick solution for a mistake.

Looking at this future log, you’ll never know (or at least I hope so) that behind that dark black washi tape is some pattern I thought would look cute but ended up being messy and absolutely horrific.

Use Washi Tape To Decorate Pages

A pretty straightforward idea is to use washi tape to decorate your pages. My favorite way to do this is to add washi tape to my quote pages.

I think it helps to frame it, and bring more balance to the page.

Plus, they are a great way to fill out some empty spaces on your page you realize you don’t like.

Washi Tape To Create Dividers

I don’t know about you, but I hate creating lines. If I draw them by hand, they are always wonky, and rulers often slip, making the line straight but going in weird directions.

Plus, sometimes, maybe you don’t have the time to draw those lines; you might need something quick.

This is where washi tape came to play, one piece of the tape and you replaces a line. And the best part is, if you stuck it the wrong way or in the end you want a line instead of washi tape – unstick it from the page and do anything you want on it instead!

Washi Tape Swatch

This is more like an idea on how to display your washi tape and always have all the tapes you have at hand. But I wanted to include it here.

It’s a fun spread to create in your journal, and it’s a way to express your creativity and do something fun.

Create Washi Tape Frames

Similar to dividers, you can use washi tape to create frames. Be it a frame for your daily box or maybe something extra decorative for your pictures, washi tape can do it all.

For me, it’s mostly about creating frames and pictures that I love using on my memory-keeping pages.

And in case you’re wondering, I’m using my HP Sprocket printer for all my pictures. Photo quality is pretty good; it doesn’t require ink, and the printing p[paper can be used as a sticker, perfect for adding to your journal pages.

Washi Tape Lettering

This is a new thing I’ve recently seen, and I can’t get over how stunning it looks!

It’s basically the art of creating letters from washi tapes, and it looks amazing on your cover pages and anywhere else where you need larger letters.

All you need is a pencil to outline the letters, washi tape to fold the hem in, and a paper knife to cut the corners.

Washi Tape Banners

Another fun idea for your washi tape is to use it to create banners.

You can create smalled banners, liek for the dates on your weekly spread, or soemthing larger for full on headers.

The opportunities are limitless!

In case you want to create a banner you’ll be writing on top of, I’d recommend using a more monochrome color so your text stands out.

I’d also recommend using pens on the top. They take a bit longer to dry, but they will be seen much better. My go-to recommendation is Sakura Gelly Roll.

Background For Headers

Washi tape can really help your monotone headers stand out if you use it behind them.

I recommend using it with sticker headers since that will make it easier to read text, and you can use washi tape with more design variations.

Washi Tape To Mark Important Pages

Want to have a way to quickly find essential pages without even opening your Bulelt Journal? Introducing washi tape!

It’s pretty simple: use a large piece of washi tape on the border of a page you want to stand out, and that way, even when the journal is closed, you’ll have a clear idea of where the critical page is.

Add Extra Elements To The Page

If you ever feel like you need more space on your spread or want to create a way to cover up a more sensitive entry you don’t want to see all the time, washi tape can help.

Take a piece of paper and simply stick it to your Bullet Journal page! If you ass it just on one side, it will allow you to open it and look behind, if this is what you need.

I used this trick for my vision board here, where I have a little letter from my future self hidden behind. I wanted to have it on my vision board, but it’s a bit hidden, so it’s there working behind the screen, and I don’t see it.

Alternatively, you can also use washi tape to add extra pages and create a dutch door effect.

Use Washi Tape To Create A Monthly Theme

If you struggle to come up with a monthly theme idea, your washi tape might just be the inspiration you need.

Washi tape can be a complete theme for your monthly setup! Just use it on every page as the main decoration, and you’ll have a cohesive themed setup.

Alternatively, you can go a bit insane as I did and use Wahsi tape to fill out ALL the blank space on the page.

If you use this technique on a monthly log, for example, you’ll just need a paper knife to cut out the parts of the page that are the actual monthly log.

Create Patterns With Washi Tape

If you like creating straight geometric patterns, washi tape might be your best friend. Let’s take a look at this cover page, and I’ll explain.

Check the colorful pattern behind the letter J; this was created with washi tape, and as you can see, it all has beautiful straight lines.

All you need to do is just apply some washi tape in whatever patterns you want, and then use colorful markers on top of it. Once you’re done with coloring, simply carefully unstick your washi tape, and you’ll end up with a neat pattern like this one!

Washi Tape Page Tabs

If you want to find any information in your journal easily, washi tabs are a great way to do it. Just stick a piece of Wahsi tape on the side of the page, and you get an obvious signifier that this is where the information is.

I like using it at the beginning of the month, so I can quickly flip between months when needed.

Since I don’t use an index page, this is a great way to still be able to find everything I need without flipping through the entire journal.

You can, for example, clearly see some tabs coming out behind this weekly spread. This is also an example of using washi tape to fill out those random empty spaces you get on your spreads sometimes.
