Looking for free Bullet Journal printables to track your whole year? A Year in Pixels printable is one of my favorites to recommend because it gives you a record of the whole year without any long journaling sessions. Most years blur together by December, and this one-page helps you remember what the year felt like.

I have been Bullet Journaling since 2018, and I’ve found this tracker very useful and pretty easy to keep up with. Below is my free template, plus ten more free options from other creators, so you can pick the one that fits your journal.

A year in pixels printable turns your whole year into one colorful page. Every day gets a tiny square, and at the end of the day you color it in to match your mood, a habit, or anything else you want to track.

The only issue is the time it takes to set up this one page for the entire year, and that is where printables are a great option.

So I designed a free template for you and gathered ten more free options from other creators. Pick the one you like, print it, and start whenever you feel ready, even mid-year.

Here is how this post is organized: I’ll explain the tracker, then share my printable. Afterward, I’ll share tips and tricks for using this printable, and I’ll also add 10 FREE printable Year in Pixels pages from other creators, so you have more styles to choose from.

Let’s dive in!

What Is A Year In Pixels?

A year in pixels is a one-page tracker where every day of the year gets its own tiny square. At the end of the day, you pick a color that matches how the day went and fill in the square. After a few months, you have a colorful mosaic of your year, and patterns start to show up on their own.

Camille of Passion Carnets, a French Bullet Journalist, created the layout in 2015, and it became one of the most popular trackers in the bullet journal community.

Most people use it as a mood tracker. But it works for anything you can rate or sort into a few categories, like sleep, energy, weather, workouts, or habits.

Here’s my own year-in-pixels tracker; as you can see, I have a section for both my moods and my daily habits that I intended to follow through the entire year.

Here is the page I designed for you. It is one portrait A5-size page with the 12 months across the top and the days 01 to 31 down the side, so every square lines up with a date.

The border is full of little doodles: a moon, a sun, a cloud, stars, and leafy sprigs. The whole page is black-and-white line art, so it prints light and leaves all the color to you.

At the top, a key has five boxes and a line next to each one. That is where you decide what each color means. Why five? Because fewer categories mean you will actually keep using the tracker. Letโ€™s be real, a 12-color key sounds fun on January 1st and exhausting by February.

If you have been wanting a year-in-pixels Bullet Journal spread without drawing the grid yourself, this is the shortcut. Mine is also undated, so you can use it for 2027 or start in any month.

A few printing tips before you start:

  • Print at 100% (actual size), so the squares stay even.
  • If you color with markers, use thicker paper so they do not bleed through to the next page.
  • Glue or tape it into your journal, or keep it loose in a binder or planner.

Year In Pixels Ideas: What To Track

The classic format for a year in pixels is to track your moods, but actually you can use it for so much more.

Personally, I first used this format to track air quality when I lived in Beijing, just to get a sense of the patterns throughout the year.

Here are a few ideas on what exactly to track and what kind of key to use that are probably more impactful and useful than my first experiment:

  • Mood: great, good, okay, rough, awful.
  • Sleep: rested, fine, tired, barely slept, nap needed.
  • Energy: high, steady, low, drained, sick.
  • Weather: sunny, cloudy, rainy, snowy, stormy.
  • Movement: long workout, short workout, walk, stretch, rest day.
  • Reading: read a lot, read a little, listened to a book, did not read, finished a book.

Pick one and stick with it all year. If it stops working, you can swap a color and keep going without starting over.
