How To Use Washi Tape In Journals

You know, when it comes to washi tape, the sky’s the limit. There are as many ways to use this little gem as there are stars in the night sky. But don’t worry, we won’t leave you star-gazing. At the end of this post, we’ve got a treasure trove of creative ideas waiting for you.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. For now, we’re going to focus on 7 sparkly ideas to kickstart your washi tape adventure. Think of these as your washi tape training wheels.

Washi Tape Dividers

If you’re anything like me, it’s drawing those pesky dividing lines that you can’t stand. I mean, who really enjoys playing tug-of-war with a ruler, right? It’s almost like the ruler has a mind of its own and decides to go on a joyride across your page.

And if we’re being honest here, it’s probably the only part about Bullet Journaling that doesn’t make my heart skip a beat.

But don’t worry, I’ve found the perfect antidote to our line-drawing woes – say hello to our trusty friend, the thin washi tape! Yes, you read that right. You can use thin washi tape to neatly divide your days. Not only does it save you from wrestling with a ruler, but it also gives you a chance to flaunt your washi tape collection (we all have one, don’t we?).

It’s a quick and easy way to set up your spreads. And the best part? You’ll be done in no time, giving you more moments to savor the joy of Bullet Journaling.

Washi Tape Banners

We’re making decorative banners for our weekly spread! I know, I can hardly contain my excitement either!

Now, there are two ways to unfurl your creativity here. The first option is to use colorful washi tape to create cute, eye-catching banners. Think of them as little pops of joy on your page.

But wait, there’s more! If you’re feeling bold, why not grab some dark washi tape and write the date directly on top of your banner? It’s like having your own personal mini-calendar right in your journal.

Grab your washi tape and scissors, and let’s get crafting!

Washi Tape Tabs

Ever found yourself flipping through your Bullet Journal, trying to find that one important page? Well, say hello to your new best friend – washi tape tabs!

Here’s a fun trick: grab your favorite washi tape, cut a piece off, and stick about a third of it to the edge of your page. Now, fold over the excess tape to the other side of the page, and voila! You’ve got a nifty little tab sticking out.

These tabs are perfect for sectioning out months in your Bullet Journal or marking those super-important pages you revisit often. Plus, they make your journal look even more fun and personalized.

Bullet Journal Key Flap

Let me share with you a little secret that will transform your Bullet Journaling experience. It involves a key on a flap, and let me tell you, it’s a game-changer, especially if you’re just dipping your toes into the Bullet Journaling waters.

Picture this: you’re getting to grips with the signifiers system, or perhaps you’re introducing some new symbols, or maybe you’re taking color coding for a spin. Sounds fun, right? But also a little bit daunting. That’s where our hero, the key flap, swoops in to save the day!

To ensure it’s sturdy, I’d suggest making the flap that attaches to the cover quite large. In my case, it was the same size as the part with my key.

This way, you won’t have to flip all the way back to the first page of your journal – just flip out the key, and voila, you’re good to go! With the flap, your key is always within sight when you need it.

Creating this lifesaver is a breeze. Grab a piece of paper and jot down your key, aligning everything to the left or right, depending on which side of the notebook you’re attaching it to.

Next, fold the paper and line it up with your Bullet Journal cover. And for the grand finale, secure it with some washi tape. And just like that, you’ve got a handy key flap that’s always at your fingertips.

Washi Tape Headers

Did you know you can use your washi tape to jazz up your headers? Oh yes, you can! You can scribble directly onto the washi tape for a quick and easy header that’s as unique as you are. It’s like giving your Bullet Journal a mini makeover with every entry.

But wait, there’s more! You can also use your washi tape as a decorative frame around your headers. Think of it as putting a spotlight on your important notes. All eyes will definitely be on them!

And here’s the cherry on top: some washi tapes already come with headers on them. Yes, you heard that right! It’s like having a handy helper that says, “Hey, let me take care of that header for you!” It doesn’t get any easier than this.

So, go ahead, grab your washi tapes, and start experimenting. Your Bullet Journal is your canvas, and your washi tape? That’s your paintbrush. Let’s create some washi tape masterpieces together!

Fix Mistakes

Did you goof up a header? No worries, washi tape’s got your back!

Here’s how you can make your mistakes disappear faster than a rabbit in a magician’s hat: just slap some washi tape over it! You can use a sleek black washi and write on top of it with a white or gold pen (a trick I used in my 2019 Bullet Journal Setup). Or maybe you’d prefer to add a pop of color to brighten your day – the choice is yours!

But here’s the real kicker: you can turn this cover-up into a style statement. Why not make all your headers the same way with washi? It could be our little secret.

Everyone will be too dazzled by your creativity to ever guess there was a mistake hiding behind that beautiful washi tape.

Add Extra Elements To Your Journal

Ever wished for a little extra space in your Bullet Journal to jot down tasks or maybe cover up something you’d rather keep private? Well, guess what? Washi tape comes to the rescue once again!

Here’s a nifty little trick: cut out a piece of paper – it could be dotted paper from the back of your journal or, if you’re feeling artsy, why not use a piece of watercolor paper to add some doodles?

Once you’ve got your paper cutout ready, whip out your washi tape and attach it to your page.

If you want to add a secret compartment, just tape it on one side so you can flip it up and reveal the hidden content underneath. Want to cover something completely? No problem! Just secure it with washi tape on both sides.

Hey presto! You’ve just added an extra dimension to your Bullet Journal page. It’s like creating a pop-up book but way cooler because it’s in your journal.
