Yes, if you use black and white, you don’t really need that many supplies, and you can just use one black pen. But with a few extra supplies, you can do more!
So here are a few recommendations for stationery that can help you create stunning monochrome headers:
- Sakura Pigma Micron fineliners. These are perfect black pens for your titles, and this set comes with pens of different nib sizes so you can have a variety of line thicknesses.
- Tombow Fudenosuke brush pen. These pens are your best helpers if you want to create some brush lettering headers. They are very easy to control, and with the small brush tip, they are perfect for creating smaller titles.
- Tombow Dual Brush monochrome pens. Just because your titles are black and white doesn’t mean you can’t add some shades of grey to it. They can actually help you elevate your titles, and this set is perfect for it.
- Sakura Gelly Roll White. Another way to make your titles stand out is to have a dark black background and white letters on top of it. This white gel pen is the best for creating this effect.
As you can see, even with monochrome title designs, there is still a lot to do and many supplies you can use to help you make them stand out.

I find that every time you make your titles or headers smaller, they become extra cute! These look stunning, and you can even get here a slight idea of how different things look when you add just a little bit of color.
This is a beautiful set of ideas, and not just for January! I love all the different fonts and techniques the creator used. As you can see, they also added a bit of grey for more variety.
This is a wonderful spread with many different font ideas that you can use to create unique and interesting-looking titles in your Bullet Journal. As you see, all the creator used is just a black pen; the colors here are only to divide the different styles.
Another exciting way to make your titles look different is to use different banners and decorative elements around it, rather than playing with fonts like in previous examples.
Get the font examples from the beginning of the post. put it together with banners from this page, and you'll be able to create something unique for your page.
If all you have in your stationery collection is a ballpoint pen, don't fret; you can still create beautiful and fun titles. Here is a fantastic example with some pretty easy ideas.

A fun idea for your titles is to decorate them based on a theme of the current month, and this is an example of doing that for a botanical or floral theme. It's a universal theme that looks fantastic any month of the year, and it really makes the titles so much more creative.
Somehow, I feel like all of these headers have that really cartoonish feel to them, and I'm absolutely here for it! Just looking at these brings back childhood memories and birthday parties.
This is another wonderful example of the monochrome style for your titles. You see, the creator is a lot of gray in some of these headers, and if you like the color, you can definitely just use something bright instead of gray, and it will have an entirely different look.
As you can guess from all my comments, I'm much more of a color girl, so always trying to give you options of how you can make these look a bit different.
