Ever since I started my first Bullet Journal in 2018, I’ve used themes in pretty much every monthly setup. I find that themes make planning more fun and creative, and they create a clear separation between months.
For that reason, generally I try to stick to one theme every month. But remember – your journal has your rules, so you can play around with themes in your journal however you want; there is no right or wrong way to do it.
You can start with one theme and finish the month with another. Or you can use a different theme for every page. With the themes on this list, you won’t be short of ideas.

I’ve curated a special list of 13 tantalizing theme ideas just for you. Several of these are from my own journals, but I also included plenty of inspiration from other creators so you get more variety of styles and ideas.

Coffee Bullet Journal Theme
We are starting with probably my favorite November cover page I’ve created to date.
This is one of my favorite themes to create in Fall; you can go in so many ways with the style! From cozy kraft paper vibes to bright and colorful, this theme has tons of potential.
And with Pumpkin Spiced Latte the most popular drink of the season, it’s a perfect theme to explore.
Simple Floral Theme
Florals are an amazing theme for any month of the year, and you can’t convince me otherwise! I especially love this take because the floral doodles are actually very simple, but together they look amazing and extra special.
Kraft Paper Theme Idea
Who said that kraft paper can’t be a separate theme? I think it absolutely can be, and it’s perfect for November! With the cozy Fall feeling it creates in your journal, it’s the perfect time to try this theme.
That theme took me some extra things – I used a kraft paper notepad and a Silhouette Cameo machine to cut out the lettering for all the headers. I also printed the lettering on the notepad first. So this month was all about using technology.
Lettering Theme
Want something simple but creative? This is a perfect theme idea for you! It lets you play around with different fonts and lettering styles, and you can even add different colors if that is more your style.
Baking Bullet Journal Theme
With the harvest we get in Fall, it seems like every house smells of a freshly baked pie! So why not use it as a theme idea?
As you can see, I added something special to the theme: I used only one color per page and thicker lines to outline the doodles. Personally, I really loved that effect!
November Bullet Journal Theme: Jams
I love this cover page, and a theme idea is super fun! You can play around with colors of fruits used for the jam and, of course, just think of all the possible shapes and colors of the jam jars!
Watercolor Theme Idea
That’s a fun idea – to create a theme around a material you’ll be using for the setup! It’s kind of like my kraft paper idea, only this theme uses watercolor.
Watercolor is a fantastic medium to build a theme around, because you can play around with so many different colors to create something truly unique. Plus, don’t forget metallic watercolors!
Fall Bullet Journal Theme
Fall is, of course, a classic theme to explore in November, but I wanted to find a cover page that looks a bit different, and I think this one is a fantastic example.
Instead of traditional colors, this creator went with stunning blues while still using fall-themed doodles, so it’s clear to everyone what season we are talking about.
I really love this idea of using black-and-white doodles and adding color around them; it creates a really interesting contrast.
Mochi Theme
Another theme I created in November was mochi, and I think it came out looking super cute.
Mochi is a super simple doodle to draw, so I added a few more elements, but overall it was simple, and I think the key to making it cute was choosing a fun color combination.
For this theme, I used Crayola Super Tips, sicne they come in so many colors and are pretty affordable. It took a while to choose this combination; this was probably the longest part of that monthly theme. But I think it was worth it.
Cozy Clothing Theme
November is not winter yet, but it is already getting cold. So it seems like the perfect cozy theme to pull out all the sweaters and scarves you want to wear that month.
This cover page is absolutely stunning! And extra points to the creator for using my favorite Zebra Mildliners.
Thanksgiving Pies Theme
November is, of course, a Thanksgiving month in the USA, so it makes sense to try out a pies theme that month.
It’s similar to my baking idea above, but a bit more narrowed down and delicious! And I like that the creator added a different angle by framing the illustration like a photo.
Houses Bullet Journal Theme
Houses are super cute, and you can play around so much with how you draw them, from different styles to different colors. You can make it as elaborate or as simple as you want!
Mushroom Bullet Journal Theme
Mushrooms are a staple of Fall, so this is a perfect theme to explore in November. I really love that you can find all types of mushrooms out there and play around so much with shapes and colors.
Stationery Recommendations
Let’s take a detour and chat about something equally thrilling – stationery!
Here are a few of my go-to supplies that I swear by, and I’m pretty sure you’ll love them too.
- Fineliners. These pens are the blood of your Bullet Journal pages. My best recommendation is Sakura Pigma Micron.
- Zebra Mildliners. If you’re looking for something to add color to your journal pages, you can’t go wrong with these highlighters.
- Tombow Fude Brush Pen. This pen is definitely my go-to for all types of brush lettering, and it’s also great for drawing.
- Journal Stencils. Stencils are a great tool to help you create pretty pages even faster! And this set of printables also has some decorative elements so you can create beautiful pages with no effort.
