Stationery Recommendations
Before we dive into all types of summer themes to try in your Bullet Journal, let’s talk about the supplies you need to create an entire theme.
It wouldn’t be me if I didn’t recommend something. So here are some of my top picks that would be perfect for summer and pretty much any other season or page:
- Fineliners. Always on my list since it’s the best pen for drawing and creating your Bullet Journal pages. I love Sakura Pigma Micron.
- Markers. If you want to add color, you’ll need those. For bright summer themes, I recommend Tombow Dual Brush Pens, and you can do some brush lettering with them as well.
- Washi tapes. These are really such a fun and easy way to decorate your pages and set the mood for the monthly setup. I’d recommend you check Washi Tape Shop since they have a wide variety of sizes and designs, so you can find something that fits your style and needs.
- Ruler. Definitely useful for any page you decide to create. And as a bonus, you could use this stencil ruler to help you play around with different shapes.
With all the supplies ready, let’s dive in and find you a perfect summer theme!
Bullet Journal Summer Themes To Try This Year
Before we look into these theme ideas, I want to mention that anything can be a theme for your Bulelt Journal. Just because it's summer, it doesn't mean that your theme has to be based on the weather outside.
In this post, I gathered 13 different ideas, from something really connected to the season to something completely different.
I'm sure you'll be able to find something that fits your style and your needs and have fun with it!
First is my August cover page and the brightest summer theme I think I've ever done. This was inspired by tropical jungles, but to make it easy and more accessible, I chose to draw simply all the different types of leaves.
This was also a wonderful theme to try out all the collection of green pens and markers you have.
I have never been a camping type of person, but I would imagine summer is the best season to do that, since it's warm and nice so you can enjoy all the good sides of nature.
This is an interesting take on the theme with just black and white illustrations. You can do so much with just one black pen!
I can't say this is exactly a coffee theme, but I know it looks aesthetic and super stylish. Kraft paper and the dark black accents in doodles and headers create a unique layout.
I think for summer, all types of fruits are a perfect theme. After all, this is the best time for fresh, delicious fruits, including lemons. The yellow of the lemon is also so bright and cheerful that it perfectly represents the fun of this season.
For me, photography and cute little Polaroids are very connected with the exciting and colorful summer adventures you have with your friends.
In this particular take, I really love how the creator added so many details to even the doodles of these little polaroids.
I have no theme name for this setup; I think it's just summer. I basically just added any type of summer-themed doodles I could think of and made a whole theme out of it.
Inspiration for your summer theme can come from anywhere, including your favorite books. This layout just reminds me of the good times they had in the Shire and how Frodo was delaying his leaving home so he could fully enjoy the Shire in the summer.
The main theme for this was to use all the new stationery I got from Archer and Olive (get 10% OFF with my code MASHA10), but the theme for these supplies was summer, and there were plenty of stickers and cards with swimsuits, so I think it created a pretty fun summer theme.
Flowers are a wonderful theme for any month of the year. Sunflowers, however, are so symbolic of summer and happy, warm days that it makes them extra fitting for this season.
Of course, summer is all about being on the beach and enjoying the sun and water, be it an actual beach or just a river bank. So, this is a perfect theme for the season. I love how the creator went for bright, detailed illustrations for this setup.
This theme has no relationship to the summer, but it looks cute, and I think it is pretty easy to recreate, so I wanted to include it here.
I think using grey to add shadow to the doodles really helps to add dimension and make them feel like they almost pop off the page.
June is my birthday month, so I always try to make a theme of something I enjoy, and that year it was makeup. It has no connection to the season, but I really love how it came out. Plus, makeup is so fun to doodle!
Last but not least, consider using watermelon as a motel theme. It is perfect for summer, which is the season for the cheapest and most luscious watermelons.
I also really like how the creator approached this theme, with almost little paintings of watermelon parts as decorations
