Tips For Buying Supplies For Beginners
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the supplies out there and spend a lot of money on things you don’t need.
So here are a few tips for buying your first Bullet Journal supplies:
- Don’t overdo it
As a beginner, you might want to buy ALL the supplies, but if you do (like I did), you might spend a lot of money n things you’ll not use in your journal. So start with some basic supplies, and as you Bullet Journal more, you’ll get a better feeling for the supplies you’ll use.
- Start cheap
As you explore your Bullet Journal style and the supplies you need to create it, I recommend you get something affordable because chances are you won’t love ALL the things you’ll buy.
- Swatch your pens
Depending on the journal, the paper color will affect the way the colors of the markers are displayed. And you’ll want to make sure there are no issues like ghosting or bleeding.
Ok, you got all the most essential tips, time to talk about supplies. Oh, and be sure to scroll until the end for some more recommendations.

Bullet Journal Supplies For Beginners
There are so many amazing stationery items out there! Abd I talk about more of them on this blog (be sure to check the end of the post for more resources), but since this blog post is for beginners, we'll look just at the supplies that are considered the basics.
Journals
We're starting, of course, with a journal, since you can't start a Bullet Journal without a notebook.
I always recommend starting with something more on a budget, and this journal seems decent quality and pretty affordable. Perfect to start and experiment with your first BuJo.
If you, however, want to invest in a high-quality journal, I recommend you to get my favorite brand - Archer and Olive. And you can get 10% off with my code MASHA10.
Pens And Pencils
The next category is pens, which I think are the blood of your journal.
Not many people pay attention to what kind of pencil to get, and that's a shame. Considering you'll use a lot of pencils, I really recommend you get one with a comfortable grip, like this one.
This is my favorite pen for writing, and you'll be doing a lot of writing in your journal.
No matter what kind of journaling you do and your style, you'll need fineliners - they are perfect pens for drawing and creating your Bullet Journal pages.
This set of brush pens is an absolute staple; they are not just great for drawing, but they are also perfect for creating headers for your pages.
Markers
Next us - things to add color to your journal, in case, of course, you want to make your journal colorful.
These markers are excellent, they come in so many colors, are pretty affordable, and you can actually use them to create brush lettering.
These are my favorite pens for adding color to my Bullet Journal, so I had to include them.
Another amazing set of colorful markers, and there are actually several different color sets available that would fit your style.
Other Supplies
We covered all the basics, but I thought I'd mention a few more supplies that I think will be useful for any beginner.
This simple and affordable tool will allow you to create the most amazing circle elements in your journal.
If you want to create beautiful pages in no time and without being creative, these stencils will be so helpful!
