Bullet Journal Back To School Theme Inspirations
There are plenty of Bullet Journal theme ideas, and today we’re discussing one of my favorites.
Whether you’re a student getting your supplies in order or someone who loves the nostalgic charm of a fresh notebook, a back to school theme can bring organization and fun to your pages.
It doesn’t have to be a school year, and you don’t have to be a student to enjoy this theme. And there is so much to explore, so many different ways to approach it and make it your own.
In this blog post, I gathered several inspirations to light up your creativity and help you create a unique back-to-school setup that will bring extra joy to you every time you sit down to plan your week.

I think creating themes in your Bullet Journal is both fun and practical. Fun because you get to try something new and exciting every month, so your planning is never boring.
Practical, because it easily allows you to divide your Bullet Journal by different months, so you don’t even need to use tabs – right away, just from the design, you know what month it is.
Plus, it’s a good way to build divisions between every month.
Back to school is probably my favorite theme, because it’s the one where you can doodle plenty of stationery items, and stationery doodles are always so fun to draw!
Before we look at the inspirations, I wanted to mention that at the end of the post you’ll find some FREE Bullet Journal printables that will help you create themed layouts right away.
Also, at the end of the post, you’ll find plenty more inspirations and ideas for your Bullet Journal. After all, there is no way I can fit it all in one post!

Stationery Recommendation
Before we dive into the inspirations, I wanted to share a few supplies that I’m sure you’ll love to use for creating your back-to-school theme, or pretty much any other page in your journal.
So here are a few of my top recommenbdations:
- Sakura Pigma Micron – a good set of fineliners is a blood of your journal, and this brand is amazing and has smooth black ink.
- Crayola Super Tips – this is a fantastic set of markers; they come in many different colors, and you can actually use them for brush lettering as well.
- Zebra Mildliners – these are the most school-themed highlighters; they also come in beautiful colors and have a marker tip. They are my go-to markers, especially for a “back to school” theme.
- Pilot Frixion Markers – one more set of amazing markers that come in beautiful colors. Plus, they are actually erasable!
Ok, supplies at the ready and excited to get started! Here are a few inspirations to start creating a back-to-school theme in your journal.
Bullet Journal Back To School Theme Inspirations
I'm so excited to share with you these layouts! Different artists created them, so you'll see different styles and approaches to the back-to-school theme.
And remember, there are more resources at the end of this post to get even more ideas if you need it.
Let's dive in!
Starting with my first ever back-to-school theme and up to date, I think it's my favorite one. I wasn't even planning to create an entire setup that month, I just sat down to do a quick cover page and a brain dump, and it turned out into something very special.
Here is a beautiful inspiration on how you can incorporate this theme into your weekly setups. Simply use doodles associated with the back-to-school season to decorate your pages.
I love this take on the back-to-school theme, it kind of makes me think of my school desk at home or a work desk I have in my place. It's cozy and yet, very functional and practical.
Of course, most of these themes were created in September or August, when the new school year is upon us.
I really like this cover page and the different kind of color scheme the creator chose. Additionally, they incorporated some floral doodles, which I'm always open to adding to any theme.
We've seen so far pretty illustrated layouts, but your take on this theme doesn't have to be complicated. Like this creator, a bit of washi tape and colorful paper could be enough to create that back-to-school mood, and it looks great as well!
The creator says this is a pen and pencil theme, but it's for September, and pen and pencil are the back-to-school essentials, so I think it absolutely fits this list.
This is my second try at a back-to-school theme. This time I mixed stationery items and some snacks I like to create a theme for the perfect study sessions.
I love the season because it features all these bright and beautiful colors, and I think this cover page absolutely captures all the excitement! Plus, I like how the creator added a schoolbook grid to the quote page, very on theme!
These habit trackers are beautiful and I love the idea the creator used to make it on theme by using different types of paper and grid for each little tracker.
This creator brought a completely different feel to this theme. With the soft colors and the stylish backpack, it looks like you'll have a very aesthetic and posh study year ahead.
Last but not least is this beautiful and realistic approach to the back-to-school theme. I love all the little details the creator put into making sure these stationery doodles look exactly like the real thing.
