Stationery Recommendations
Before you sit down in your home office or at the dining table to plan for January, you’ll need to get your supplies. And in this world, there are too many to choose from.
So, to keep it simple, here are some of my favorite supplies that I think you’ll love using in your Bullet Journal as well.
- A journal. Of course, you can’t plan without a journal, and there are many to choose from. My top choice are Archer and Olive journals (you can get 10% off with my code MASHA10), but there are plenty of more affordable options as well, such as Lemome Dotted Bullet Notebook.
- Fineliners. These pens are the blood of your every page! Apart from smooth ink flow and rich black lines, they can create, they also come in sets with different nib sizes, so you can add more variety. My top choice is Sakura Pigma Micron pens.
- Markers. If you like adding color to your journal, you’ll need some markers! I always recommend Crayola Super Tips, since they come in many colors and are pretty affordable. You can also use them for brush lettering!
- Tombow Fude brush pen. This pen is your universal friend that will help you create beautiful headers, brush lettering, doodling, and drawing. The small, easy-to-control brush tip makes it a perfect pen for all beginners as well.
- Washi tapes. In case you’re looking for an easy way to decorate your Bullet Journal, washi tape is the way to go! There are all imaginary themes and colors of washi tape out there, so you’ll be able to find something that fits your aesthetics.
With all the supplies at ready, let’s get planning.
January Bullet Journal Theme Ideas
Your options for January Bullet Journal themes are as vast as your imagination, so technically, this list could go on forever!
But in the spirit of keeping things manageable (and not overwhelming you with endless options), I've narrowed it down to 17 stellar ideas.
So, whether you're a Bullet Journal newbie or a seasoned pro, let's dive into these themes together and kickstart your year with a dash of creativity and a whole lot of fun!
Let's start with a classic yet stylish idea - watercolor. Now, don't let the word 'watercolor' intimidate you; it's much simpler than you might think. Plus, it offers a fantastic way to dabble in creativity without needing to be Picasso!
The beauty of this theme lies in its flexibility. You can choose your favorite hues, play around with different color combinations, or even experiment with various techniques. It's all about creating a vibrant, personalized canvas that breathes life into your Bullet Journal.
As we usher in a brand new year, it's only fitting to kick off with a celebratory theme for your Bullet Journal. How about a toast to new beginnings with a champagne theme?
Just like the fizzy bubbles in a champagne flute, this theme carries a sense of joy, celebration, and anticipation for the amazing things ahead. You can play around with gold, black, white, and silver elements to capture the elegance and decadence of a champagne party.
Next on our list is a theme that never goes out of style - flowers. This classic theme is a perennial favorite in the Bullet Journal community, and for good reason! Flowers can represent growth, beauty, and the blossoming of new ideas, which is perfect for the start of a fresh year.
So, why not give this floral theme a whirl? You can stick to your favorite blooms or experiment with different types of flowers. Remember, your Bullet Journal is your personal garden. So, let it reflect your creativity and joy!
As we embark on the grand adventure that is 2024, what better way to reflect this in your Bullet Journal than with a travel theme?
This theme is so much fun playing around with all sorts of travel doodles - airplanes, suitcases, maps, you name it! It's like setting off on a world tour right from the comfort of my cozy reading nook.
And let me tell you, there's something incredibly exciting about watching your Bullet Journal transform into a vibrant travelogue. It's a visual reminder that life is an adventure, and we're all explorers charting our own course.
The beauty of this theme lies in its simplicity. It's a testament to the saying "less is more". Every element is purposefully placed, and there's a neatness to it that's incredibly satisfying. If you're someone who appreciates order and elegance, this theme might just be your cup of tea.
Now, here's a fun twist I loved about this theme. The creator has used kraft paper accents which adds a rustic charm and a nice contrast to the clean, white pages. It's like a beautifully wrapped gift waiting to be unwrapped each day.
Well, here's a theme that truly caught my eye - let's just call it the 'Lunar Calendar' theme. Now, I don't think the creator actually named it that way, but to me, it screams lunar calendar, especially considering the Lunar New Year often falls in January.
Now, if you're someone who loves to play around with themes that are a bit unique and offer a sense of calm, this Lunar Calendar theme might just be perfect for you. Plus, it aligns beautifully with the beginning of the year, marking new beginnings and fresh starts.
And you can change it up and play around depending on what animal symbolises the upcoming year.
I stumbled upon this theme during one of my Bullet Journal explorations, and boy, was I stunned! It was like stepping into a beautifully sketched cityscape, right there on the pages of your journal. The intricate architectural doodles were nothing short of perfection.
Now, some might think, "Just one black pen? How stunning can that be?" But looking at this cover page, you realize how much beauty can be created with minimal tools. It's all about the skill, the vision, and the creative flair of the artist.
The creator of this theme has truly outdone themselves. I can only imagine how breathtaking the rest of their monthly setup must be.
Isn't it fascinating how our world works? While we're bundling up against the chill of January in one half of the globe, the other half is basking in the warmth of summer. And you know what's a staple in any summer scenario? That's right - ice cream!
This got me thinking, why not try an 'Ice Cream' theme for your Bullet Journal? It might sound a little unconventional, especially if you're snuggled up by the fireplace right now, but hear me out.
Imagine doodling delicious ice cream cones, vibrant popsicles, and maybe even a sundae or two across your pages. You could play around with different flavors and colors, adding a touch of whimsy to your daily planning. Plus, it's a fun way to pay homage to our friends who are enjoying their summer right now.
Isn't it delightful when we stumble upon something unexpected yet absolutely stunning in our Bullet Journal explorations? Well, let me share with you one such discovery - the 'Moth' theme. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Moths? Really?" But trust me, it's every bit as amazing as it sounds!
This cover page is stunning and I really love that little dutch door created just to show off the moth design a bit more.
And the best part? Moths come in a variety of patterns and colors, giving you ample room to play around with your designs.
Isn't it amazing how certain themes can surprise you? I just had one of those moments when I came across the 'Desktop Design' theme for Bullet Journaling. Now, I must admit, it didn't initially sound like something I'd be drawn to. But boy, was I in for a treat!
The artist behind this theme has truly worked their magic. They've transformed what might seem like a mundane concept - a desktop - into a theme that's both fun and adorable. It's like they've taken the essence of a lively workspace, sprinkled in some creativity, and voila! We have a theme that's quirky, engaging, and oh-so-unique.
And, of course, this theme gives you plenty of space for creativity, since you can play around with the colros you want to use or icons you want to have on your laptop.
There's something incredibly comforting and serene about cozy themes, isn't there? And when it comes to coziness, few things can rival the welcoming vibe of a coffee theme. It's the perfect pick for the chill of January, offering a sense of warmth that's just as comforting as a hot cup of joe on a cold day.
You can stick to earthy browns and soft neutrals to capture the essence of a snug, cozy coffee shop - just like the beautiful cover page I stumbled upon recently. The artist has done a fantastic job of creating a soothing, homely vibe that makes you want to curl up with your Bullet Journal and a steaming mug of coffee.
But if you're feeling a bit more adventurous, why not take a different route? Shake things up with bright, vibrant colors that echo the lively buzz of a bustling coffee shop. Think bold reds, sunny yellows, or even rich purples - the choice is entirely yours!
Isn't it wonderful when you can combine two of your passions into one activity? That's exactly what I did for my January theme in my Bullet Journal - "My Favorite Things". It was an opportunity, a delightful excuse, to doodle all the things I love!
I found this idea to be incredibly liberating because it allowed me to let my creativity run wild.
But here's the best part: your "My Favorite Things" theme will undoubtedly look completely different from mine. Why? Because we're all unique individuals with our own set of favorite things! Your journal could feature a collection of your favorite songs, your beloved pets, or even snapshots of your cherished travel memories. The sky's the limit!
Remember when I mentioned that literally anything can become a theme for your journal? Well, here's a prime example to illustrate that very point.
Are you fond of yellow rubber duckies? Maybe it's their bright and cheerful color, or perhaps it's the nostalgic memories associated with them from your childhood baths. Whatever the reason, you find them utterly delightful. Well, guess what? You can absolutely turn this adoration into a theme for your Bullet Journal!
The beauty of Bullet Journaling lies in its flexibility. It's all about expressing yourself and making your journal a real reflection of who you are. And if yellow rubber duckies bring you joy, then why not let them splash their way onto your pages?
There's something so incredibly charming and nostalgic about the vintage look, isn't there? If you're someone who adores all things vintage, I've got a theme suggestion for your Bullet Journal that you might just fall head over heels for.
This vintage theme is not only aesthetically pleasing but also a perfect excuse to break out all your vintage-style supplies. Those old-fashioned stamps you've been saving for a special occasion, those antique-looking stickers you couldn't resist buying, even those rustic washi tapes you've been hoarding - now's their time to shine!
I cannot help but include this theme because of its vibrant and stunning nature. Sure, a cacti theme might seem a little out of the ordinary for the winter months, but remember, your Bullet Journal is your personal domain - there are no hard and fast rules here. You get to choose any theme that resonates with you.
It's bright, it's beautiful, and it adds a dash of unexpected warmth to the chilly winter months. Plus, it's an excellent way to break away from the traditional winter themes and try something a little different.
I am absolutely enamored with this new theme - the striking contrast of black and white, accentuated by neat origami doodles. The simplicity and elegance of this monochromatic theme is such a visual treat.
The black and white contrast has a timeless appeal and the origami doodles add an artistic touch to the pages.
Finally, let's talk about a theme that's close to my heart - this bright colors theme, which I guess could also be called "colorful clouds". Either way you name it, this theme is a riot of colors, all blending beautifully to create a stunning visual effect.
You don't always need a preconceived theme for your Bullet Journal. Sometimes, all you need are the colors you love, and that can be a theme in itself!
